Zach Greinke is a Real Person

Zack Greinke

Zach Greinke, my hat goes off to you. He is just like every single working American when it comes to your job. In a radio interview with CBS Sports, Greinke admitted that he didn’t care about what team has a chance to win, he was going to sign with the team that gave him the most money. Greinke said “I could play for the worst team if they paid me the most. “If the last-place team offers $200 million and the first-place team offers $10, I’m going to go for the $200 million no matter what team it was.” Greinke signed a 6 year, 147  million dollar deal with the Dodgers in the off season, as they outbid the Rangers who all but announced they signed him in December.

GOOD FOR GREINKE!! Even though he looks like Jesse from Breaking Bad, he finally made me see that athletes are real people as well! As an average person in the workplace, you’re damn right if another company offered me more money to go work for them, I would go! What sane person wouldn’t? Hats off to you Zach, and get paid son!

Preseason Picks: MLB

This is what we look like in the DN laboratory.

Yes. It’s February 13th (Reminder, valentines day is tomorrow), but pitchers and catchers reported to spring training and I’m getting antsy. There were a lot of off season moves this winter, and with that being said, I’m going to give you my preseason divisional picks. Yes, I’m going to be totally wrong… Deal with it.

East: last year was a fluke in that division. Yes, the Nationals are good, but they aren’t that good. Especially with Gio sweating with being linked to PEDs. Philly was way off last year, but expect them to win the east. (Nationals get a wildcard)

Central: Everyone else got weaker, the Reds got a solid lead off (what they were missing). Reds will over 100 games this year.

West: Most intriguing division. The Giants somehow find a way to win. The Dodgers payroll is bonkers. These two battle it out, the other team gets the other wildcard. Dodgers win it in the last week of the season.

East: Toronto loaded up! The Yankees are falling apart! The BoSox are the BoSox… Oh yeah, Tampa Bay always finds a way. TB is takes the division, Toronto gets the wildcard

Central: This division is the Tigers to lose. Which they will. Indians loaded up and grabbed the best manager out there. Francona turns the Indians around to win it. Leyland finally loses his job.

West: The Angels are going to be really good. Expect a sophomore slump from Trout though. The Athletics are coming back with nothing to lose as well. All in all, the original four teams all upgraded and this is going to be a right division. Angels win it, Athletics with second wildcard.

Debate me all you want, you’re probably right.

Do the 49ers Have A Gripe About Last Night?

20130204-075716.jpgThe NFL season is over, and now all eyes turn to hoops or the impending baseball season. The Ravens were crowned champions last night after narrowly escaping what would’ve been one of the greatest comebacks in Super Bowl history. But do the 49ers have a gripe about the “holding” or “pass interference” on the 9ers last play?

HELL NO! Jim Harbaugh made himself look like a bigger ass than he already has, crying about a call that in the Super Bowl will NEVER be called. The refs were not going dictate the game. Unless it was a damn near a tackle, there was not going to be a hold called on that play. Also, if I’m not mistaken, the 49ers got the best break of the game with the power outage. If the power outage doesn’t happen, the Ravens would’ve gone up by another touchdown. Stop griping and get over it. The pass in the end zone wouldn’t have been caught, and maybe if the 49ers showed up in the first half, then they probably would’ve won.

Jozy Altidore: Getting Monkey Noises Yelled At Him, Insist the Game Goes On

Jozy Altidore, USA and AZ Alkmaar Striker was the victim of something that still haunts the soccer world so much. During the 37th minute Altidore was inside the penalty box and was taken down, causing an FC Den Bosch player to get red carded and sent off. This sparked a group of fans to start yelling monkey noises at Altidore. The ref immediately stopped the match, but Altidore pleaded with the ref to let the game go on. Later in the match, the fans kept at it, causing the head official to take all players and refs off the field in protest. FC Den Bosch players and pleaded with the fans to stop. When fans did, the game resumed.

Altidore has been praised for his cool demeanor during the entire thing. Obviously, this isn’t the first time this has happened to him. This has happened to me as well, and I took it with a grain of salt like Jozy did, but kudos to be as calm as he was on a national stage.

Rachel Nichols Leaves ESPN, So What Can We Look At Now?

Big news out of Bristol (and Atlanta) yesterday. Rachel Nichols is leaving ESPN and joining CNN and Turner Sports. She will have her own weekend show on CNN and be a sideline reporter for NBA and MLB games. This was announced yesterday (by mistake) on CNN’s twitter account. Nichols confirmed after it was posted. This leaves ESPN with a huge void now.

I will say this… she was my favorite ESPN face to look at. She was smart, sexy and a redhead. Now… I got nothing to look at on ESPN. I guess I can watch it for “sports” but they do a terrible job at covering that most of the time as well. Best of luck to Rachel at CNN/Turner Sports.

Caw Caw!! Battle of the birds in the Super Bowl?

20130119-164146.jpgAfter a 2-2 week, I should not be trusted with my picks. I did not foresee the Packers playing such terrible defense and Joe Flacco doing his best Payton Manning impression. Nonetheless, here are Crazy Craig’s championship picks:

Game 1: San Francisco at Atlanta. The 49ers are good… Errr, the 49ers have a great quarterback. The overall attack of kaepernick is remarkable to watch. But the Falcons defense stopped someone who is better than Kaepernick, Russel Wilson. They will do it again this week. Falcons win: 28-21

Game 2: Tom Brady is amazing. I don’t know how he does what he does most of the time. The Pats high power offense will be ready to go! Wait… They are missing their best receiver. Uncle Ray Ray and Flacco get revenge from last year and win: 35-21

These are my crazy ass picks. To tell you the truth, I’m not confident in my picks also. What do you think?

Chip Kelly to Eagles? You’re Kidding, Right?

In the latest drama to come out of sports, Chip Kelly, who said no to an NLF coaching contract a week ago, has agreed to become head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. Not much is known about the the contract yet.

This is the first college coach that Philly has brought in since Dick Vermeil in 1976. This is raising a lot of eyebrows around the college football circle that this may mean sanctions might be hitting Oregon soon. Is this a smart hire for Philly?

Who Really Deserves to Be Number One?

20130115-181958.jpg On Sunday, most of America was watching the Falcons and the Seahawks battle it out. I happened to be switching between another game that was awesome to watch (for personal and just all around awesomeness). Watching the dismantling of the last undefeated in Columbus left the pollsters wondering what to do last night. Many, including myself didn’t fathom the Buckeyes, who have been playing mediocre ball all year, take down the Wolverines. Many were expecting Michigan to be the lone undefeated team left in the nation and the obvious AP #1 team in the country.

Since that didn’t happen, Louisville got the most votes and became the top team in the nation. Did they deserve it? Personally, I would have given it to Indiana. What do you think?

NFL Playoffs Week 2

After going 3-1 in the first round (stupid Andy Dalton), I’m feeling confident with my picks going into round two of the playoffs. Let’s take a look at Crazy Craig’s round two predictions:

Game one: Baltimore and Denver. Ravens won the first game confidently, with the defense leading the show, but it would’ve been a different story with Payton Manning taking the snaps. Uncle Ray Ray gets introduced to the Mile High Club by Manning, Denver wins 28-10.

Game two: Green Bay and San Francisco. The niners are beat up… And pretty bad. Their QB can’t hit their most effective weapon Vernon Davis, but he can run like hell down the field. Aaron Rodgers is playing with a chip on his shoulder, and so is the Green Bay D. Can’t take the team whose stadium I’m currently looking at. Green Bay 35- San Francisco 21.

Game three: Seattle at Atlanta. Seattle is good. And I mean REALLY good. Solid D and fast O. Atlanta has been ruled underdog all year even though they have been nearly unstoppable though. Matty Ice 28- Seattle 21

Game four: Houston at New England. The texans couldn’t get the offense started last week and only won because Dandy Andy couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn. New England is automatic when it come to the playoffs, even though the fans have the worst accent in the states. New England 42 – Houston 10.

These are the week two playoff picks, who doubts the wizard?

Apparently There is a College Football Game Tonight

Did you know there was an important college football game tonight? Apparently, the BCS championship is tonight. Yeah, I didn’t realize it either, considering its been a month and two weeks since the regular season ended, and the NFL playoffs started this weekend. When will the BCS wake up and schedule this game on New Year’s Day, (or a Saturday where everyone can watch it) instead of a Monday, at 8pm EST. Since I live on the west coast, I will not be able to watch the first quarter, and part of the second. Then again, I forgot the game was tonight until I went to ESPN, and had to scroll to find it… And they’re televising it!

As far as the game goes, usually I would have a winner picked by now, but I can’t call it. Alabama is so fast, big and would be the team to take if I were a betting man, but Notre Dame always finds a way to win big games. This will be a defensive focused game. I don’t think either team will put up over 24. It should be a descent game to watch, but thanks to the BCS, and their great scheduling, I won’t be watching.

Dear Andy Daulton,

If you want to be an elite QB in the NFL, you have to make plays. This game was a joke. The many times that you had to make plays, you didn’t. When your tight end has four drops in the first quarter, don’t throw to him. When AJ Green doesn’t get a pass thrown to him in the first half, there is something wrong!!! When you miss an open receiver in the fourth quarter to win the game… You lost my respect.

Until next year.

Andy Reid to the Chiefs?

According to numerous sources around the NFL, it looks like Andy Reid will be the next coach of the Cardinals Chiefs? In the beginning of the week, it was said that Arizona had him locked up and that a Reid would be there. It seems that the Chiefs are willing to give him a lot more control of the team and the decisions and Arizona wasn’t too keen on doing that. Reid was let go by the Eagles on MONDAY, and looks to be the first of the coaches let go to land a new gig (personally, I thought Lovie would be the first.) No details of the agreement have emerged, but an update will be added when more news comes in.

NFL Playoffs Ready to Go!!!

Alfred Morris, Gerald Sensabaugh

The NFL wrapped up its season in wild fashion yesterday, as week 17 came to an epic end as Washington beat Dallas to win the NFC East. Here is how the playoffs look starting next weekend:

1. Atlanta 2. SF 3. Green Bay 4. Washington 5. Seattle 6. Minnesota

1. Denver 2. NE 3. Houston 4. Baltimore 5. Indy 6. Cincy

Crazy Craig’s playoff prediction:

Game 1: Saturday,4:30pm : Cincy at Houston- Rematch from a year ago, these two teams have a lot to prove. The Bengals Defense is going to be too much to handle, Cincy wins 24-14

Game 2: Saturday, 8pm: Vikings at Green Bay: Aaron Rodgers has a chip on his shoulder. A very big chip. Vikings squeaked one out in week 17, but not 18. Packers 31-Vikings 21

Game 3: Sunday, 1pm: Indy at Baltimore: Baltimore wanted this match up,  thinking that they can get to Luck early. Time and time again, Indy finds a way to win, but not this game. Baltimore wins 17-14

Game 4: Sunday, 4:30 PM:  Seattle at Washington: This is going to be the best game of the entire playoffs I think. High powered offenses squaring off against each other. Seattle’s been putting up points like crazy, and Washington has a lot of momentum going into this game, but Seattle wins 38-35.

There are my playoff week one predictions. Though I expect to go 4-0, I could very well go 0-4 with how close all teams are talent wise. Do you disagree with any of my choices?

Avery Johnson Fired in BK

After a 14-14 start, and 3-10 in the last 13 last games, the Brooklyn Nets have fired coach Avery Johnson. This announcement was made today by general manager Billy King. In sort of a shock, the Nets organization was grateful for his efforts, but wanted to move in a new direction. In two seasons as the Nets coach, Johnson’s record was 60-116. No interim coach has been named yet.

Update: According ESPN, P.J. Carlesimo has been named interim coach… adding more head scratching and humor to this story.

EPL Boxing Day Mayhem!

Manchester United expanded their lead in the English Premiere League today with a wild win versus Newcastle. New Castle United dominated the game until they did their best impression of New Castle United and imploded in the second half. A shot off the goal post late in the match turned into goal in the 90th by Chicharito, which sealed a 4-3 victory for the Reds. Controversy will arise from this match, with Sir Alex Ferguson, abusing the refs about missed calls and calls not going his way. This was a great victory for Man U, because their crosstown rivals, Manchester City lost 1-0 to Sunderland, now gives them a 7 point lead in the table. Former City winger Adam Johnson netted a goal in the 53rd minute, and superb goal keeping by Simon Migonlet, led Sunderland to victory. Chelsea kept pace with a 1-0 win against Norwich City, thanks to a goal in the 38′ by Juan Mata. Does Manchester United have the power to hold the lead in the table?

The top of the able right now is:

Manchester United: 46

Manchester City: 39

Chelsea: 36

Everton: 33

West Bromwich Albion: 33

Shocker: Fergie is Crying as Man U Ties with Swansea

Sir Alex Ferguson is crying foul after Manchester United tied with Swansea on Sunday, ending Man U’s five game win streak and letting Man City gain points on them on the table. The 1-1 match included goals by Patrice Evra in the 16th minute for Man U and Johnathan De Guzman for Swansea in the 29th. Late in the match, is what had Fergie crying foul, when Robbie Van Persie hit the crossbar on a rocket and Swansea defense man Ashley Williams cleared the ball right into RVP’s face after the whistle had blown. Fergie said “The Van Persie situation you can clearly see that he could have been killed. He should be banned for a long time because that was the most dangerous thing I’ve seen on a football field for many years. It was absolutely deliberate. The whistle has gone, the game has stopped and he has done that right in front of the referee. He could have killed the lad.” Williams was shocked of the accusation and reacted “I was trying to clear the ball, and it hit him in his head.” Great recap Ashley.

Sir Alex, obviously frustrated with the tie, was also upset because of the late win by Manchester City versus Reading put The Citizens only 4 points back. Garerth Barry headed the ball into the back of the net from a cross from David Silva in extra time. The Reds and the Blues are back on the pitch on Wednesday taking on New Castle and Sunderland respectfully.

The Bengals are Going to the Playoffs

photosWho Dey! The city of Cincinnati is rejoicing after the Bengals knocked off the Steelers in defensive struggle 13-10. A interception on Ben Roethlisberger by Reggie Nelson with 14 seconds left, led to a 21 yard strike from Andy Dalton to A.J. Green, set up a Josh Brown 43 yard field goal to give the Bengals the win. The sloppy win gets the Bengals into the playoffs for the second year in a row, the first time that this has happened since 1981-1982. The best thing about this victory is that the Bengals did this against their rivals the Steelers and eliminated them from playoff contention.

The AFC playoff teams were determined with the Cincinnati win. The Bengals, Ravens, Texans, Patriots, Broncos and Colts. Now, if the bi-polar NY Giants decide that they want to play like a NFL team this week, the Bengals have a shot at winning the AFC North. The Ravens fans were going crazy pre game, as they were showing the end of the Cincinnati/Pittsburgh game on the big screen and they saw the Steelers eliminated.

RIP Ryan Freel

Ryan Freel, utility player that mostly played with the Cincinnati Reds was found dead yesterday in his Floridahome. The police are ruling this a suicide, for they found a shotgun in his possession. Freel played 9 major league season, and was at once a top prospect in the Cincinnati Reds organization. Freel last played in 2009 with the Chicago Cubs, and he was a career .268 hitter. The Reds organization released the following:

“We Reds family is deeply saddened to hear the death of Ryan Freel. His teammates and our fans love him for how hard he played the game and he loved giving back to the community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”

R.I.P Ryan Freel.

The Citizens Fine Balotelli and Mancini Has a Message For Him

ESPN - Manchester City is fined striker and “bad boy” Mario Balotelli for two games pay or 340,000.00 GBP. The fine is a result of last years antics on the field for City as the 22 year old Italian showed the soccer (football) what kind of player he really is. It was a modest fine, as Balotelli was suspended for 11 out of the 54 games played by the Blue. Roberto Mancini, coach of Manchester City, has expressed to Balotelli that he must learn to respect himself before he can respect anyone else.  The striker did not travel with the team to Newcastle and will not be on the pitch tomorrow as they take on Reading. When asked if Balotelli would be released by the team Mancini said “Mario is like the other players. If he deserves another chance, he will have another chance. Now he must deserve this.”
